Do I have a risk of HIV transmission through skin contact?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yesterday, I went to a massage parlor for a body-to-body massage. Once the massage was done, the therapist gave me a hand job, and during the process, I also touched her vagina with my fingers. We did not have any vaginal or anal sex activity during this time.

But my concern is,

  1. Since I do not know about her HIV status, do you see any risks here of getting HIV-infected?
  2. Or is there any other infection that might affect me?
  3. Should I conduct any HIV medical tests?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

The kind of sexual activity that you described is not associated with any kind of risk of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) since you were not exposed directly to her bloodstream.

Although it would be difficult to eliminate the risk of other STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) like gonorrhea and chlamydia, it would be prudent to get prophylaxis therapy for these STDs with a short-course antibiotic.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
