Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Last week, I had a sexual encounter with a girl. I did not have any penetrative sex, but I rubbed my penis against her vagina for two to three times. There was no vaginal fluid contact also. I did not have penetrative sex, so I did not use a condom. So, I am worried whether I am exposed to HIV, and I am thinking of getting tested. But on the internet, I read that the tests are accurate after three moths only. I came to know about HIV RNA test, and I am thinking of getting tested for it. Can I go for that test now? Is a doctor's prescription required? I want to get tested after 10 days. Please tell me if it is reliable or not? If reliable, where should I get it tested?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • Even if there is no intercourse, there is risk involved, but it is less.
  • And yes, HIV RNA test is reliable to detect HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. But only HIV RNA is not sufficient. You need to get HIV antibodies and p24 antigen levels tested also. Both are good options.
  • You do not need a prescription to get tested. So, you can easily get it done.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for replying. I had precum on my penis head while rubbing. Can HIV enter through this precum?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Chances of spread are little less in general from females to male. And it is even lower if you did not have penetrative sex.
  • Precum will not spread HIV from her to you, but it is a contact between your glans penis and her vaginal fluid and vaginal mucosa, which will spread HIV.
  • So, the overall chances are less, but anyway get yourself tested.
