Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having constant itching, burning, pain, and swelling in the groin for the past eight weeks. I have tried a few remedies, but the problem still persists.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Itching, pain, and swelling in and around your groin are mostly suggestive of mixed bacterial and fungal infections. If you are sexually active, it could also have a sexually transmitted infection component. It is important to maintain good perineal hygiene. Also, it would be best if you underwent testing for infections. If not treated well, it will further lead to infection flaring up. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

1. Check for vaginal swab culture, urine culture, sensitivity, STI PCR (polymerase chain reaction), CBC (complete blood count), random blood sugar, and Pap smear.

2. Take a tablet of Metronidazole (antibiotic) 400 mg one tablet twice after food for seven days.

3. Take a tablet of Doxycycline (antibiotic) 100 mg one tablet after food for seven days.

4. Take a tablet of Pantoprazole (antacid) 40 mg before food for five days.

5. Take tablet Ondansetron 4 mg one tablet if vomiting occurs.

6. Also include probiotic supplements.

7. Wear loose cotton clothes.

8. Keep the perineal area dry and avoid douching.

Kindly follow up with the test results.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have had swabs and urine tests done. All the tests have come negative. I have had medications also, but it has not worked. It seems that the swelling has started from the urethral opening and is extending into the vagina.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

Did your physician do a per speculum examination as well to check for deep seated infections? Was STI PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test done?

Kindly follow-up with the results.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Yes, my physician examined for deep-seated infections and confirmed there was swelling, but did not provide a definitive diagnosis. On my second visit, I was prescribed Instillagel for pain relief. And I also had an STI PCR test done.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

A swelling could result due to a wide range of conditions from a trichromasis infection to cervical lesions. I suggest you consult a specialist for another per speculum examination and get an opinion. It is important to arrive at a definitive diagnosis for such lesions as early as possible.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
