Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I got my blood test done, and I am attaching the test reports. I took the iron supplements for a while before the blood test, as my iron levels were very low. I was wondering if my iron saturation means that I have iron stored in my organs, and if it will return to normal by stopping the supplements.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I reviewed your query and understand your concern.
I went through your reports (the attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The reports are fine. Iron saturation is high because you are taking supplements. I suggest no treatment is currently required for it, including chelation. I also suggest you stop taking iron supplements. At this level, there is no harm to your organs. I have a few questions.
1. Do you have an abnormal period now or earlier?
2. Was there any reason for starting iron supplements?
Kindly follow up with the answers.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for your reply.
I started taking iron supplements upon the recommendation of a doctor since my ferritin level was low. I was also experiencing fatigue. I tend to have a heavy period and more fatigue during my period.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thanks for the information.
Currently, your iron reserves and ferritin levels are fine and adequate. Hope your symptoms are better. Iron deficiency is common in menstruating females. If the reason for iron deficiency is nutritional, I suggest you take healthy food. If it is because of increased monthly flow, then a female doctor consultation is important. It is important to correct the underlying cause.
Otherwise, the iron profile and ferritin levels may remain normal as long as you take supplements, and may become low again once the supplements are stopped. I assume these things are being taken care of, as you are under the supervision of a doctor. To answer your question specifically, your iron profile, ferritin, and hemoglobin levels are adequate. You may stop supplements in consultation with your doctor. Iron stores in organs cannot be determined by blood tests alone. It usually requires specialized tests or a biopsy, which is not required in your case.
I hope this has helped you.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thanks and regards.
