Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 14-year-old daughter is being considered for growth analysis. They want a wrist X-ray to assess whether bone plates have fused. At her age, I am interested in a knee or pelvis X-ray as well, as I have read that for patients over 12 years of age, it is essential to have information about the exact status of the knee for making a judgment. Our pediatric endocrinologist said they would also order a knee X-ray, but she would not make judgments based on that. What is your opinion regarding the same?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Even though wrist X-rays are generally used for growth analysis, you can also get a knee X-ray done so that we can correlate it with the wrist X-ray for better assessment. Also, since she is already 12 years old, it would be helpful to see if the knee bone plates have fused or not.

Thank you.
