Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from insomnia for the past one year. I do get sleep, but around 1 or 2 AM, I used wake up and unable to sleep again. I am 30 years old. I am a married female and have a kid aged 3 years. I am a dentist and now, I am in stem cell research. I do not have any other health problem. My thyroid and estrogen levels are normal.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have late insomnia. If there is any associated anxiety or depression, then that should be evaluated properly. Kindly visit a psychiatrist in person. For insomnia, drugs like Amitriptyline or Mirtazapine or Trazodone can be used. These are antidepressant drugs, but have great efficacy in sleep. They are safe drugs and do not cause dependence. I also suggest low dose benzodiazepines like Clonazepam or Lorazepam as and when required. But, avoid using these drugs on a daily basis. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am not sure if I have depression. I am worried about dependence of drugs only. Kindly advice about the dose of the insomnia drugs mentioned.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

These drugs are antidepressants in high doses and in normal conditions used for insomnia. These are not dependent producing drugs, so no need to worry. Just remain relaxed. In normal situation, Amitriptyline 25 mg in the evening after meals helps in good sleep.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
