Is lightheadedness related to neuro, heart or sinus issue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have recently felt lightheadedness for about a week. I went to the ER and they could not find anything wrong. They did all neuro testing and I passed. Blood work and urine are perfect. Blood sugar and blood pressure were perfect. EKG came back perfect, no stomach issues. I do not feel like I have to vomit and drinking or eating does not help or make it worse. I have not fainted at all. I do have high cholesterol but I take fish oil every day and red yeast rice as recommended by the doctor. The only thing that makes it go away is if I lay down and sleep for a bit then I feel better. I have had a headache every now and then but it does not last very long.

Is this a neuro or heart issue or something to do with my sinus? My ears do pop a lot lately. I do not feel dizzy. The room does not spin. Just a few times I feel like I have to lay down or I will faint.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Probably you have an issue with your ear that may cause a block in the eustachian tube due to allergy or infection leading to vertigo. Other possibilities like acute labyrinthitis or vestibular neuronitis may cause your symptoms.

Avoid smoking and caffeine drinks, cool drinks and freeze water. Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day. If the headache is severe, use Paracetamol thrice a day. If symptoms are not improved please consult your ENT specialist or neurophysician. He will examine and treat you accordingly.
