Hello doctor,

I had my blood testing done yesterday. Rest all reports are good except for my hemoglobin count. The following pointer is highlighted:

  1. Hemoglobin- 8.4 g/dL.
  2. Eosinophils- 7.4 %.
  3. Monocytes absolute count- 0.14 x 10^3 microliter of blood.
  4. Basophils absolute count- 0.01 x 10^3 microliter of blood.
  5. Hematocrit (PCV)- 32.6 %.
  6. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV)- 71.5 fl.
  7. MCH- 18.4 pq.
  8. MCHC- 25.8 q/dL.
  9. RDW-SD- 51.6 fL.
  10. RDW-CV- 20.3 %.
  11. PDW- 7.5 fL.
  12. PLCR- 11.5 %.

Considering above test results, is there anything serious to be taken care of? Is it just due to iron deficiency? How should it be prevented? Could you suggest what could be done for the same?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your Hb level is low and blood indices also low. Your serum iron level as well low. Hence, it is suggestive towards iron deficiency anemia. For further workup, peripheral smear examination and serum ferritin investigation have to be done. You need to have a prescribed iron tablet that contain good elemental iron like Orofer XT like tablet containing Ferrous Ascorbate with elemental iron 100. This tablet can be taken until bone marrow iron storage gets normal. That is why I recommend serum ferritin testing as well which reflect iron store.

Take care.
