Why do lower abdominal pain and a temptation to urinate repeatedly occur a day after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex with my partner for the first time three days ago. Everything was good, but I had pain in my lower abdomen the next day and the temptation to urinate repeatedly. But I could urinate only a couple of drops and felt discomfort. I want to know whether there will be any problem with this. And what is the reason? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You may be suffering from a urinary tract infection according to your symptoms. It is common post-sex.

I suggest you take the following medications.

  1. Disodium Hydrogen Citrate syrup 5 ml in 100 ml water three times a day after food.
  2. Tablet Uribid 100 mg twice a day after food for five days
  3. Tablet Zerodol P twice a day after food for three days and
  4. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day before food for three days.
  5. Please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

If issues persist, check for urine complete.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you and take care.
