Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old boy and have been addicted to daily masturbation for the past two to three years. Does daily masturbation decrease sperm quality? Does it have any side effects?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. Masturbation is a natural process. But having sex and inserting a penis in the vagina is also associated with increased arousal and sexual feelings, and a sense of love and affection, whereas masturbation, is the opposite. Masturbation is a self-pleasure technique in which you try to achieve the same sexual pleasure as being alone. Remember, all the same hormones are never involved as it does give pleasure, but it is not the same.

Along with that, please remember doing anything in excess can harm you. So if you want to masturbate, you can do it, but remember one thing, do not masturbate more than two times a day to lead a healthy life. I suggest you masturbate on weekends or regularly, like two to three times a week. Harmful effects of masturbation are less and a result of very chronicity. For example, masturbation can lead to an increase in weight. You will gain more weight than you expected. Secondly, you will have less testosterone in your body because you will be draining out all the testosterone due to masturbation, which will lead to loss of libido, which means you will have less sexual desire and decreased sexual arousal with time.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
