I have severe neck pain with cervical spondylosis. Do I need medical attention?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was diagnosed with cervical spondylosis years ago, but recently my neck pain has gotten much worse. My throat feels like it has a lump in it and it is itchy and bothersome when I swallow and sometimes makes me cough a bit. In light of COVID-19, what can be done from home to get some relief from the pain and also should I be concerned about any urgent medical issues?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from neck pain and feeling lump like sensation in the throat which is itchy and bothersome during swallowing meals and sometimes makes you cough. You are a diagnosed case of cervical spondylosis. Feeling a lump in your throat without having an actual lump is called globus sensation. It can result from anxiety, stress, psychological disorders, food allergies, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), skeletal muscle disorders like Myasthenia gravis, myotonia, etc.

Anxiety and GERD are the most common among the causes. GERD is a form of acid reflux that causes the stomach's content to travel back up the food pipe and sometimes into the throat. Again, both anxiety and GERD can make your neck pain worsen. So you can take Naproxen plus Esmoprazole combination (twice daily), Gaviscon (two teaspoons three times daily), Baclofen (twice daily), Domperidone (three times daily). And you should become mentally sound and remove all anxiety and depression.
