Hello doctor,
I had braces for eight years. I was missing the tooth next to my front teeth on both sides. So once my braces were removed, I had implants done. I was not given any retainers. I was told I would not need them due to my implants and because my bottom teeth were bad. My bottom teeth are worse than ever. It has been nine years since my braces were removed. Now the orthodontist is suggesting braces again on my bottom teeth. Why am I not given any retainers, or is it not given because I had implants done on the top teeth? Is it normal not to give retainers if the bottom teeth are not in good condition? Everyone I know either had permanent retainers put in the bottom or had retainers for the night. Is there any chance they forgot about my retainers because of my surgeries after braces? What is your opinion? Thank you.

Yes, it would have affected your implant, but there is no problem using permanent retainers for the lower teeth if you had given consent. Please upload a picture of your teeth so that I may know if you need an orthodontic appliance or a simple Howley appliance. I think the orthodontist should have provided retainers because eight years are much time and effort. You need to give it another chance but make sure you put retainers after treatment. Even the passive retainers will not do any damage after proper healing is over. Thank you.
