Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I visited a massage parlor today evening and after a full body massage I received a handjob from the masseuse. I did not check whether she had cuts or bruises on her hands. Now I fear that I may suffer from an STD. Could you please help me overcome this?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing in, and I understand your concern.

To contract STD (sexually transmitted disease), requires intercourse either natural way, anal, oral, or open-mouthed kissing. Other ways include direct contact with lesions or sore, sharing of needles, exposure to contaminated blood. There should be atleast skin-to-skin contact of microorganisms causing STD to get transmitted. There are different types of STDs caused by viruses and bacteria. Among them, herpes can be transmitted by oral to oral contact and genital contact. Other STDs like HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), gonorrhea, etc., get transmitted through sexual contact, and hence such STDs can be ruled out. First of all, there should be concrete history that the masseuse who performed massage for you has STD and also, before performing massage, she should touch the open lesion or sore or genital organ of her own to transmit microorganism (for example, herpes), which is again a very rare way of contracting STD. There are a lot of facts to consider before you think that you might have contracted STD. I hope my reply helps you to overcome your anxiety about it.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I masturbated last night before going to bed, and this morning I woke up with wet pants and assumed that there was a mild discharge from my penis. Is this something to worry about?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Most STDs are transmitted through sexual contact and other ways, which I have mentioned above. Herpes virus can be transmitted through skin contact, but a lesion should be present on the masseuse, and she should touch the open sore or lesion before performing the massage. But you do not know anything about it. The risk is very rare as such mode of transmission is very rare. Wet pants could be anything and not necessarily STD. If you have any doubt, please visit the local doctor and get clarified as soon as possible. I also suggest getting tested if recommended by the doctor.
