Can lack of healthy erections cause penile atrophy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got an injury from a penis pump accidentally on giving high pressure and masturbating for many hours, causing inflammation. I have seen multiple urologists and a general surgeon with experience in the penis as well. They all say it is just a stubborn inflammation and to give it time. When I do not masturbate, the pain goes down, but my morning erections go away also. And I am concerned that if I do not have healthy erections, I could get penis atrophy as some guys do after prolonged periods of no erection. Do you think that it is fine if I use a penis pump with very gentle pressure to stimulate erection? Or would the penis pump prevent inflammation from going away?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for consulting us.

First, you need to stop the pump till your penile condition is back to normal. You will not get penile atrophy at all as it is not possible. Erections can be affected if you use the pump aggressively as it causes fibrosis of the structures in the penis. If I see a picture of your penis, I can give you more details about the expected recovery time. Masturbation usually does not cause any problem. If you have any more queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

My urologist inspected it and could not see anything abnormal. There are no skin cuts or anything like that. It is an internal inflammation like 2 to 4 mm beneath the skin in the superficial nerves. If I walk a lot or masturbate, it gets inflamed again with a burning sensation.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Using pump with high pressure has caused it. This takes a long time to resolve. Masturbation will not aggravate it. No creams are suggested. Injection of collagenase can be useful if there is fibrosis. Regards.
