Hello doctor,

I suffer from polycystic ovaries, I get pain in the lower abdomen on the sides when I palpate it, and my lower stomach is swollen. I have irregular and heavy periods, hair growth on my face, and acne. I have consulted a specialist.

I understand your concern. You have polycystic ovaries and symptoms as well. I suggest you to follow a few things mentioned below.

  1. Have a healthy diet, lots of fruits and vegetables, and plenty of water with less salt, sugar, oil, and spice.
  2. Practice regular exercise.
  3. For heavy periods if you have been taking oral contraceptive pills for a very long time, it is better to replace them with other contraceptives as these can also give long irregular periods if taken for a long time.
  4. Take tablet Norethisterone 10 mg twice daily from day four to day 26 of periods and continue like this for a total of three cycles to reduce heavy and prolonged bleeding.
  5. Having iron supplements could replace iron to reduce the risk of anemia.
