Why has my right arm and chest been itching for 2 years?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have itching on my right arm and chest. What can be done?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the images (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

Please answer a few of my questions:

  1. Since when have you had this itching?
  2. Are you concerned about black nodular lesions on your chest?
  3. There is no active skin lesion on your arm. Have you used any topical creams?
  4. Do you have acne on your back or face?

Kindly revert.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

The itching has been going on for over two years now. It is on and off, and when I itch, it leads to injury and then wounds. Yes, there is an active lesion over the hand, but the itching is there, and you can see the black spots formed from previous lesions. I do not have any acne on my back or face, and I have not used any topical cream.

What could this be, and what could be the likely treatment?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It looks like Prurigo nodularis. Consider applying a cream with a combination of mometasone and Fusidic acid over the lesions once daily for two weeks. Take the tablet Levocetirizine 10 g at bedtime for 10 to 15 days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss the situation with him or her, and start taking the medicines with their consent.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer.

For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
