Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My penis head is itching, and certain areas have a few red patches. It has been occuring for almost a week.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. According to your history, it might be Candidial Balanoposthitis. Candidial Balanoposthitis is a fungal illness that causes itchy red patches on the glans penis (the head), as you have mentioned. It may also cause slight cracks and swelling in the foreskin area. There is no need to be concerned. It could be ruled out with the proper examinations. The problem is more common in those with weakened immune systems, dry skin, and an inability to clean the affected region thoroughly. It is a curable disease. I recommend seeing a Dermatologist in person because KOH (potassium hydroxide) testing may necessitate obtaining skin scale samples to rule out fungal factors and swab testing in case of any secretions to rule out additional bacterial infections. Upon receiving the report, your Dermatologist may prescribe antifungal or antibiotic treatments and oral supplements. My advice is to eat a healthy and balanced diet, drink enough water regularly, clean your private region with a mild cleanser, and keep the area hydrated with moisturizers.

Patient's Query

Hi, doctor,

Thank you for the reply. Any recommendations on which lotion should be used and is best for curing?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Clotrimazole cream is commonly used to treat candidial balanoposthitis. However, I would advise taking the test before using the lotion to rule out other conditions. In-person consultation with an inspection of the affected region is required. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the affected area to get a proper diagnosis and begin the appropriate treatment. Since my advice is based on the history and symptoms stated rather than an in-person assessment. Please consult a Dermatologist in person for optimal treatment.
