Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from ringworm infection for a year. It first appeared on my thigh and later it got spread around. Whenever I went to the hospital, they prescribed me Clotrimazole cream, but it never worked. Some antifungal creams, such as Clobeta GM and Enderm GM, worked for me, so I could manage until now. But even those ointments have stopped working. It has spread over areas where I cannot apply the ointment, such as the ear pinna and scalp. Could you suggest an instant cure for it? I heard that even oral pills can cure matured ringworm of my type. Would it work for me?

I am waiting for your response.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Well, ringworm is a type of fungal infection and it is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. Firstly, you should keep these precautions in mind:

  • Do not keep the affected area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep it dry.
  • Avoid itching and do not scratch the affected area.
  • Change your undergarments frequently.
  • Do not apply any general or steroid cream, such as Betnovate, etc.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine once you are cured. Continue taking the medicine for a long time to completely kill the fungus.
  • Avoid excessive sweating and wet clothing.
  • Check for diabetes and thyroid issues if the infection is recurrent even after proper treatment.
  • Now, for the treatment part:

    • For itching, you can take antihistamines like Levocetirizine 10 mg (Levocetirizine) once in the morning and evening.
    • You can use Ketoconazole cream (Ketoconazole) or take tab Terbinafine 250 mg (Terbinafine) for two months.
    • You can use Terbinafine cream (Terbinafine) or take Fluconazole 150 mg (Fluconazole) twice a week for two months.
    • You can take tablet Itraconazole 200 mg (Itraconazole) once a day and use any cream for one month.
    • These are different treatment combinations. Make sure to continue taking the medicine as prescribed.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards.
