Hello doctor,
I am suffering from ringworm in the buttock area for the past three years. I am tired of taking medications. Though I follow good hygiene, the infection is reoccurring within a month. It started with a slight itching, and now it has got worse. Our dog is also suffering from ringworm. My current medications are Phytoral-B cream, Levocetirizine tablets 5 mg, Ketoconazole tablet, and I previously took Luliconazole cream, HH Zole cream, and Itraconazole.
Would you please suggest medicines to treat this?
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for the query.
Fungal infections are known for its recurrence. The presence of moisture exacerbates these infections. I suggest you use plain fungal creams like Sebifin cream (Terbinafine) and oral antifungal tablets, which had a good response. Kindly do not use cream having steroid combination. Once it subsides, you can use antifungal dusting powder after bath regularly.
I suggest you the following precautions to prevent the recurrence;
1) It is advisable to stay in well-ventilated areas.
2) Wear loose cotton inner wears and do not wear tight clothes.
3) Moisture retention should be avoided as much as possible to prevent a recurrence.
4) Treat the dog simultaneously.
5) Wash after getting in contact with your dog.
Consult your dermatologist for further evaluation and management if it does not subside.
Thanks.
