Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sciatica five years ago. Most of the doctors I consulted suspected my issue to be a problem on the spine and hip. But, only one doctor identified it as sciatica and gave me an injection for the pain. Now, I am starting to feel the pain again.

Would you please tell me what test can find sciatica?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your reports carefully and would explain that a spine MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is necessary to determine if you have sciatica or not (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity).

If this pain is similar to before the injection, you likely need a second injection. In the meantime, I would recommend taking painkillers like Ibuprofen and Naproxen. And kindly avoid weight lifting or prolonged standing.

I hope you will find this information helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

You said a spine MRI is necessary to determine whether I have sciatica or not. But I have done the same MRI three times and attached the reports. It did not mention sciatica anywhere.

What should I do now?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The MRI findings of the L4 and L5 (lumbar spine) bulge are compatible with sciatica, which means compression of the sciatic nerve. As the nerve originates in this region and the bulging disc is compressing the sciatic nerve.

I recommend a second injection for your pain.

I hope you will find this information helpful.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
