I have a painless pea-sized bump on my penis for the past nine months. Please help.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a pea sized bump on my penis, which does not go away and is there for the past nine months. It does not hurt. I use an inhaler since I have asthma.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for consulting with us. I have reviewed your picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Since this is a painless bump, it can be a sebaceous cyst or a dermoid cyst. The only way to treat it is surgical excision. It is a minor operation and can be done under local anesthesia. If you have further queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Do you know what could have caused this?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for following up. A sebaceous cyst is a sebum collection, a skin secretion inside the hair follicle, and it grows to variable sizes. It happens sometimes. It is not contagious and will not necessarily occur again. It can be a single like in your case or multiple. It is entirely benign and cannot be treated with medications. It remains painless until it gets infected. A dermoid cyst is an embryonal cyst that is painless in form and occurs in the body's midline structures. It involves skin layer, benign, and require surgical removal. It does not reoccur after removal.

I hope my information where helpful. Keep in touch and update me about your condition.

Kind regards.
