Can having 62 percent abnormal sperm cause infertility?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My sperm analysis report shows 62 percent abnormal spermatozoa. Is this something to worry about?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It may be due to infection, smoking, alcohol, chemicals, pollutants, or excessive heat exposure. If you have any of these factors, try to eliminate them. What are the sperm count and motility according to your sperm analysis report?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My sperm count is 68 million per mL. The total progressive motility is 70 percent after half an hour and 55 percent after two hours.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your sperm count and motility are very good, which helps offset the presence of abnormal forms. According to WHO (World Health Organization) parameters, only a value of less than 4 percent normal sperm indicates potential infertility, meaning up to 96 percent can be abnormal. If you have any of the factors I mentioned earlier, you should avoid them. I suggest taking vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and folic acid tablets for three to six months. Consult your doctor, discuss this with them, and take the medication with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
