Is it possible to contract an infection with saliva in the absence of penetrative sex?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a handjob recently. I had no condoms, we did not engage in oral or vaginal sex, and she gave me hand relief. However, she twice dribbled saliva onto the head of my penis as a lubricant. Although I do not know her sexual history, there are no obvious symptoms after one week. Could I have contracted anything from her saliva?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the information provided from your end and understand your concern.

As long as there has been no penetrative sexual activity and no exposure to vaginal fluids, you do not have to worry. STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) do not spread through saliva. They can be contracted only through body fluids like vaginal fluids and blood. So touching, kissing, and saliva does not cause STDs. Furthermore, since there is no known history of infection among your sexual partner, there is no need to worry. If further evaluation is needed based on the investigation, you may undergo an STI (sexually transmitted infection) panel test to confirm. Again, you are safe if your partner has no history of infection and because there has only been exposure to saliva. Further blood tests may be done to rule out any possibility of the same.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
