This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having shoulder pain from yesterday right after getting up from the bed. Yesterday it was mild, but today it got increased, and having pain while moving the shoulder. I am having pain during shoulder movements like lifting and feeling shoulder stiffness.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have mentioned shoulder pain which started after you woke up, indicating postural issues at sleep that might have initiated this pain. Do you have any feeling of weakness, numbness in the affected limb? If there is no history of any injury, and no signs and symptoms of inflammation or an infection like swelling, skin redness, or local warmth on touching, then I will like to advise you for conservative management initially in the form of:

  1. Ice packs at home four times a day can be initiated.
  2. Take gentle anti-inflammatory medications like tablet Etoshine (Arcoxia), tablet Aceclofenac (Zerodol), along with a muscle relaxant for three to five days.
  3. Intensive physical therapy with a focus on modalities only for reducing pain and inflammation and do not exercise still you have acute pain.
  4. Take adequate calcium and vitamin D supplementation as per requirement.
  5. Make sure your posture is maintained while working and during sleep.

See how it goes for around 10 to 14 days time. If your condition does not improve, then we will have to get certain investigations done.
