Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am taking Amlodipine 2.5 mg and my doctor prescribed Simvastatin 40 mg. When I picked up the medication the pharmacist warned me of a major interaction. The doctor told me to take the medication anyway because I was able to tolerate Pravastatin, which I was on previously. I had also been on Atorvastatin and Rosuvastatin previously, but both gave me muscle aches. Although my cholesterol levels have been fine on Pravastatin, my doctor wanted to be more aggressive about my treatment. I am confused as to whether to take the Simvastatin or insist on something else.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If you are experiencing significant side effects from Simvastatin, such as palpitations, dizziness, or fainting, you may need to stop taking it and consult your physician for an alternative. While I understand that your physician wants you to lose weight quickly due to your BMI (body mass index), you can achieve that without enduring these side effects. Most of these medications have side effects, so it is important to choose one that you can tolerate best.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
