What are the effective ways to manage sinus tachycardia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 30-year-old female. Yesterday, I had an EKG due to chest pain. My doctor said that my heart is healthy, although the automated interpretation of my EKG was abnormal. It indicated sinus tachycardia with a heart rate of 111 beats per minute and non-specific ST depression, which is non-diagnostic for my age.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand that you are worried, but please try not to be.

Sinus tachycardia simply refers to a fast heart rate, and yours is only slightly elevated. It is likely that you were a little anxious during the examination. ST and T wave changes are often observed in normal, healthy patients and can sometimes be due to medications. At your age, it is highly unlikely that you have any cardiac-related issues. However, if you have experienced any recent chest pain or shortness of breath, that could be a cause for concern. If you do have symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain, I recommend repeating the EKG (electrocardiogram) test, as a conclusion cannot be drawn from a single EKG result.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
