I have a sore throat with a mild headache. What tests to take?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from a mild headache, and I have a sore throat. What reports should I go for so the doctor can get a proper diagnosis for me?

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Here are a few investigations that can be done for a sore throat:

  1. ASO (antistreptolysin O) titer.
  2. CBC (complete blood count).
  3. Throat swab done only if needed.

For symptomatic relief, I suggest taking a decongestant like Levocetirizine 5 mg once daily for five days, and vitamin C 500 mg for five days can be taken primarily.

Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and start taking the medicines with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
