Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Two years back, I experienced severe pain on the right side of my stomach. USG and CT scan revealed nothing, so symptoms were treated with painkillers. Two days back, I experienced the same severe pain, and it happened like this. I skipped breakfast and fell asleep after having lunch at 2:30 PM. After an hour, I woke up and passed stool. Soon after, started experiencing pain on the right side of my stomach. I took a Gelusil tablet, thinking this pain may be because of gas. However, the pain gradually increased and, within an hour, became extremely unbearable. I had to be admitted to the hospital for emergency care. Along with pain on the right side of my belly, I also felt bloated. However, there was no vomiting, and neither was there any burning sensation in urine or throat. Emergency doctors did physical checks around the belly and concluded that the probability of appendicitis was high. Doctors administered Dynapar injection, Drotin injection, and Pantodac injection. Pain became manageable within two hours, and I was released for the night. The next day I got USG done, but the cause of pain could not be ascertained because the report came negative for appendicitis. USG identified cholesterolosis, but I learned from the internet that this issue could not cause pain like the one I experienced. So what is the cause of this mysterious pain? This appeared twice in a gap of two years, and I fear it may attack again without warning. I fear unless the root cause is identified and treated, I may be at risk at any moment. It is almost two days now the pain is less, but when I am yawning, laughing, walking, or taking a deep breath, I still feel the pain. I can sleep only on the left side as the right side is still paining. Kindly assess and provide your comments.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

I suggest you do the following:

  • The first thing in the morning, drinking a glass of lukewarm water is good. Add some baking soda to this if you are feeling bloated. It aids in cleansing the bowels.
  • Ginger tea is another great remedy to induce bowel movements in the morning.
  • A glass of warm milk with a little honey or sugar is a good remedy for constipation. Warm water or milk with isabgol husk at bedtime helps bowel movements in the morning.
  • Applying a few drops of lukewarm castor oil over the navel when going to sleep can help in the easy passage of stools in the morning.
  • Guava, pears, oranges, grapes, papaya, apples, and other fruits add roughage to the diet and help in the easy passage of stools.
  • Soak some raisins in hot water, cool them, and crush and strain them. This is very effective for treating constipation in children.
  • A glass of carrot juice or papaya juice is very useful in treating constipation.
  • Drink about eight to ten glasses of water to avoid constipation. Artificial juices and canned drinks do not count in this, as they only make it worse.
  • High-fat, processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine are major causes of constipation. So one should avoid them to a large extent.
  • Including small amounts of olive oil, castor oil, and ghee helps in lubrication and easy passage of the stools.
  • Triphala, which is a popular ayurvedic preparation, can be mixed with warm water and consumed to prevent constipation. Given its bitter taste, you can add a small amount of honey to it. It has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-parasitic properties. This helps in the overall cleansing of the colon and is not just a short-term remedy.
  • Yogasanas like pavanamuktasana, yoga mudra, dhanurasana, and vajrasana have major benefits on the digestive system, including releasing accumulated gas and passage of stools.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.
