Hi doctor,

I have a mildly swollen area in the back of my mouth, right above one of my wisdom teeth. It seems like the gum behind it has moved above the tooth, and there is a small white pimple on it. This leads to pain when swallowing. I have used Listerine for the past few days, but I feel this has only worsened. I am currently on vacation and do not know whether to do something about this now or whether to wait until I return to my country next week.

Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I can understand your concern about your pain and tooth-related issues. It seems to me like pericoronitis. It is a condition because of inflammation of the gums or even infection of the gum that comes between the teeth during a bite. I suggest you use 4 % of Hydrogen Peroxide three to four times daily. If you do not get it, then get a 20 percent concentration and dilute it six times to be safer. That means one spoon of Hydrogen Peroxide and six spoons of water, and make sure you do not swallow or drink it. After using, wash your mouth properly for about 2 to 3 minutes. If you have persistent pain, I suggest you take antibiotics with a combination of Ofloxacin and Ornidazole twice daily for five days. Provided you do not have any systemic complications or related allergies against these drugs.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you out.

Take care.
