Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have inflamed taste buds without any burning sensation or pain for the past three weeks. But those in the back have reduced in size whereas those in middle and front of my tongue are mildly inflamed now. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. Please attach a photograph of your tongue for proper evaluation.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I have attached photographs of my tongue. What is the problem with my tongue? Is this normal, or is there some issue? Will the inflammation go away with time? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen the photographs attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). There are a few swollen tongue papillae in the back portion of the tongue and a few in the front of the tongue. A proper assessment can be done if you share the following information; Do you have any acid reflux problems? Do you have any sore throat or pharyngitis, or recent fever? Do you have any stress? Do you have any food allergies, or do you take spicy foods? Is there any pain or burning or itching or tingling sensation over the swollen taste buds? I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up with the answers. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. There are no burning or itching sensations. I do not have acid reflux or a sore throat. My left tonsil is slightly bigger. I do not take spicy foods, and I am not allergic to any foods. I have some stress. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is a transient inflammation of taste buds and is expected to heal or become normal in a few weeks. It is good that you do not have pain or burning sensation in the swollen papillae. I would suggest you take Vitamin B complex tablet for 15 days as vitamin B deficiency can cause swollen tongue buds. Apart from this, do you have any other symptoms in the oral cavity? I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up with the answers. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I do not have any cavities. I will take Vitamin B complex tablet. Are there any chances that it could be a sexually transmitted disease? Please give your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

STD (sexually transmitted disease) has a different presentation in the oral cavity, and it depends on the type of STD. Its presentation could be a cold sore, oral blisters, red patches, etc. I do not think it is an STD. It is a transient inflammation of the tongue papillae. I would suggest the following: Take Vitamin B complex once a day for 15 days. Consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medicines with their consent. Gargle with a mixture of lukewarm water and salt three times a day. Maintain proper oral hygiene. Brush after every meal. Avoid spicy or acidic foods. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You are welcome.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I have one more doubt, how long will it take for the tongue bud inflammation to disappear? Kindly answer.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The taste buds typically regenerate themselves about every one to two weeks. If there is no major inciting factor or cause, it should suppress in a week or two. I suggest taking vitamin tablets and other measures as suggested above. I hope you find this answer helpful. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. These taste buds have been inflamed for 25 days now. Is this normal? Please answer.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It should not be inflamed for the above mentioned days. That is why I suggested you to take Vitamin B complex with Zinc mineral capsule once a day. If the cause is due to vitamin deficiency, it will help. I hope this has helped you out. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
