Hello doctor,
I am a 20-year-old, and a year ago, I had a filling done on my left upper first molar tooth. It was sensitive for a couple of weeks, but then I was fine. Six months later, I was in excruciating pain that was throbbing and achy. After a week, it was back to normal. Then, after another five months passed, the pain returned. I am not sure what the trigger is. Kindly help.

I understand your concern. I think you urgently need to take an X-ray of the tooth. Sometimes even the already restored teeth get further infected due to leakage or food lodgement. This develops sensitivity and pain. The pain will be felt only when that specific pulpal area comes in contact with an external agent. Maybe your filling has become loose, or there is some leakage or fracture. That is why pain is off and on and not continuous. In any case, your pain is indicative of root canal treatment (RCT) that involves nerves of teeth which is the pulpal area treatment.
