Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my due date of periods one week ago. My fiance and I had unprotected sex nine days ago. And I took an emergency contraceptive pill the following day. I am not having periods till now but have experienced abdominal cramps. What should I do?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to ilciniq.com.

Thanks for trusting us about your health care.

I have gone through your history, and I can understand your concerns. Your menstrual irregularities could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by the emergency contraceptive pill. As you took the pill on time, there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case. So wait and watch for your periods to occur, and kindly get your home urine pregnancy test after seven days of your missed period date. I hope you found this information helpful.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I got minor bleeding three days ago and got a similar bleeding today morning also. Is it periods or something else?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for trusting us again.

It is due to hormonal imbalance caused by the emergency contraceptive pill. And it is referred to as withdrawal bleeding. The period will come on time, or it may get delayed due to hormonal imbalance.

Regards.
