HomeAnswersObstetrics and GynecologypregnancyI had periods two months back, but the pregnancy kit showed a faint positive line. Why?

What could be the reason for the faint line in the pregnancy kit as my periods are delayed by two months?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My last period was two months back, and the cycle usually would be around 33 to 35 days. Today I took a pregnancy test. It shows a faint line and a dark line. What would be the reason for this??

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details you shared, and I also saw the image of the pregnancy test kit (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). This particular image shared by you is most likely a non-pregnancy indicator. But with the other details shared by you, you have missed your period, and also, there is a significant time for it. If you are sexually active, there is a strong likelihood of pregnancy. Unfortunately, sometimes the test comes negative in early pregnancy or when the test is not done correctly.

The test is an indicator of hCG levels in the urine of a female, which otherwise is low but increases significantly during pregnancy. These test values vary during various weeks of pregnancy. In your case, as per the image shared by you, the hCG values have not given a strong positive result. So my recommendation is if you are sexually active, please repeat the pregnancy test tomorrow morning with the first urine of the day. Do not drink too much fluid. Adhere to all guidelines written on the package of the pregnancy test kit and especially for the timings as otherwise, due to various chemical reactions, the kit color changes, causing confusion.

It will be even better if you can get a blood hCG test done, which is even more accurate. Do not worry. I am always there for you. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I will repeat the test tomorrow morning and will let you know.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Also, I would like to know if you are sexually active with protection or planning for a baby. Do not worry, but sometimes the hCG values are low in a few females, and in some females, with twins, it is high relatively. So it is fine but does the urine test again, and if blood hCG is possible, please get that done as it is fairly accurate.

Do not worry. I am just a message away.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the update. I was apprehensive about your health. However, the test is positive and self-explanatory. It is around 6 to 7 weeks of pregnancy. Many congratulations and I wish you a safe and healthy pregnancy. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. You need to focus on specific nutrients for a healthy pregnancy. And also, take some precautions for a safe pregnancy.

I am always there for you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I am a little bit worried. I had two miscarriages. The first-time sac was empty without an embryo, and a second-time heartbeat was found, but after a few days, bleeding started. This time it should be well and good.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Please share with me medications you are already taking or were taking before conceiving, like folic acid and multivitamins. Did you get an ultrasound or tests done? I await to hear from you to ascertain the cause of the high-risk pregnancy.

Patient's Query

At the time of miscarriage, Vitamin D was very low it's around 13.5..so she prescribed fotosis 60 IU...and she gave me some iron tablets.iron properly.....:(... I didn't do any ultrasou d scan....currently waiting in hospital to do that
Answered by Dr. Reetika
SCH means subchorionic hemorrhage, bleeding between sac and uterus lining. At this HCG value, an embryo should be seen, most likely it's blighted ovum. You can wait for bleeding to start itself or can directly get suction and evacuation done . If it's your third miscarriage , then please get for yourself and partner , karyotyping done to see for any genetic aberrations. Also other causes of recurrent abortion to be evaluated. Take Care

Patient's Query

What could be the problem here doctor.... Why this bleeding happenedjQuery1111018656335420487724_1658897140292
