Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Last week fully, I experienced needing to urinate all the time. I did not feel like my bladder was empty. I started getting lower stomach pain near my pelvis. I assumed this was a UTI as I usually have recurring ones but had not in a long time. I ordered some antibiotics through a doctor online. I started taking it that weekend, but the next day I had more pain. Today I have had really bad stomach pain near my pelvis on my left side, going all the way up to my heart. It would feel fine, and then I get a shooting pain. I could not even speak to a doctor on the phone. I am just wondering if the antibiotics are taking time to work or if this is something serious. I was given Trimethoprim antibiotics. I have had many recurring UTIs in the past. I did a UTI dipstick before the antibiotics, which showed high leukocytes and blood in my urine. I have done it since being on the antibiotics and have shown there is no blood, but still shows an infection. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, actually, antibiotics can cause stomach disturbance, and due to that, abdomen pain and sometimes diarrhea can be seen. I would suggest you take tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day before breakfast in the morning, along with antibiotics for five days. You will not have pain again. The probable cause of your condition is an infection. The differential diagnosis is a pelvic inflammatory disease. I suggest a urine microscope investigation. The probable diagnosis is UTI (urinary tract infection). Preventive measures include drinking cranberry juice and drinking plenty of water. Please answer the following for a clear picture:

1. Do you have episodic pain, or is it continuous?

2. Do you have diarrhea?

Revert with answers.

Regards.
