Can the lubes in condoms or latex cause vaginal itching and allergy

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can the lubes in condoms cause allergy? My boyfriend wore a condom, and we had intercourse. But I had vaginal itching the next day, and it has been there for the past five days. Is it because of the lube or the latex? I just have itching and no other signs of discharge or anything. How can I suppress this? Kindly suggest me a solution.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for trusting us with your health care. I have gone through your history and understand your concerns. Yes, condoms may cause allergies. Your symptoms are suggestive of vaginitis, and it is mainly due to a fungal infection. I suggest you keep the area dry and clean, drink a lot of warm water, and consume soft foods. In addition, I suggest you use antifungal medicine and cream for application. I hope you found this helpful. Feel free to ask for more information.

Thanks and regards.
