Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 21 years old, and I have had itching on my inner thighs for about five months. Initially, the itching was not too bad, but it kept worsening. I have itching on my inner thighs up by my private parts and also in my pubic hairs. I never had a rash or anything to begin with. Now my inner thighs are always red and small hives appear after itching (they go away once I stop scratching). The itching is absolutely unbearable and embarrassing.

The itching gets worse and worse as I scratch. I would literally scratch till I am bleeding.

Please help me find a solution.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Fungal infection indeed is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. I suggest you keep these precautions in mind,

1. Do not keep the area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep there dry.

2. Avoid scratching the area.

3. Change the undergarments.

4. Do not apply any general or steroid cream like Betnovate.

5. Do not stop the medicine once you are cured. Continue medicine for a long time to completely kill the fungus.

6. Avoid excessive sweating and wearing wet clothes.

7. Check diabetes and thyroid if it is really recurring even after proper treatment.

I suggest you take the following medications. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him/her and take the medicines with their consent.

  1. Ketoconazole cream and tablet Terbinafine 250 mg for two months.
  2. Terbinafine cream and tablet Fluconazole 150 mg twice in week for two months.
  3. Tablet Itraconazole 200 mg once in a day with any cream for one month.
  4. If there are any whitish discharge from the vagina then take the tablet Clotrimazole 500 mg vaginal tablets for six days regularly in night. Do not take it orally.
  5. For itching you can take antihistamines like tablet Levocetrizine 10 mg once in day and once in evening for two weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
