Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I feel like I am going to throw up anytime. Whenever I eat anything, no matter how small or big, fast or slow, I feel like throwing up. The type of food does not matter. I have actually thrown up four times in the last three months, and I feel like throwing up one to three times a day.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your concern in detail and I will surely help you out.

The persistent feeling of throwing up for long durations can be signs of uncontrolled diabetes, thyroid disorder, or increased blood pressure. I suggest you get evaluated for these. However, considering your age, I doubt you will be having any of these issues. You are too young to have these now. Once these are normal, we can make a safe diagnosis of psychogenic vomiting. Psychogenic vomiting is just a constant feeling of throwing up due to some particular taste or smell to which you are constantly exposed to. For eg., any particular food you eat frequently, or the smell of your room or bathroom.

It can be very easily controlled by changing the environment in which you live and taking one tablet of Escitalopram 5 mg at night before sleeping. Thirdly, modification of eating habits plays a major role as acid reflux can lead to persistent vomiting tendencies. Take small meals at frequent intervals. Avoid chocolate; excess tea, coffee, citrus fruits, or alcohol. Also, a drug like Pantoprazole 40 mg in the morning will help you a lot.

You can get these tests done and contact me for further evaluation anytime.

Wish you good health.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.
