Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 15-year-old female. I am 5'2 inches tall, and I weigh about 150 pounds. I have been having problems losing weight. When I was 13, I was thick but not fat or slim, and then from 14 years to now, I just bloated up. I guess I ate too many sweets or bad foods, but I need advice on a diet and exercise because I want to look fit by this year end. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

At this age of 15 years, it is very normal for teenagers to be worried about their body shapes and weight. Reading your history, I would like to alarm you about certain health conditions responsible for your sudden weight gain.

1. In case you eat a lot without worrying, it may be binge eating disorder.

2. Hypothyroidism is very common in females.

3. PCOD. You must also get a workup done to rule out PCOD.

Investigations to be done

1. T3,T4,TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels. 2. LH (luteinizing hormone), FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levels. 3. Blood glucose levels (HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, and post prandial blood glucose).

Treatment plan

1. Drink plenty of water. 2. Take adequate sleep. 3. Reduce carbohydrates in your diet like wheat , corn, rice, etc.

Regarding follow up

Kindly follow up for a diet plan once you get the above mentioned investigations done.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
