Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a lot of pimples on my face. How to get rid of these pimples? Kindly give your suggestions.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Acne is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, pilo-hair, and sebaceous-oil-producing gland. These pilosebaceous glands are densely distributed over the face, neck, chest, back, shoulder, and arms. It also has a genetic component, meaning the appearance or severity of acne depends on the genes of the parents. Sebaceous glands produce oil that is expelled out through the duct, which opens on the skin's surface. As long as this duct is intact, oil flows freely onto the skin. If there is any blockage in the duct the oil cannot come out then it starts irritating the surrounding skin and causes comedones (black and white heads).
Also, the bacteria on the skin act on the oil collected inside and cause inflammation leading to red bumps, pustules, and cysts or nodules. Hormones have strong effects on acne. Hot and humid climates, causing increased sweat, can clog the pores. Application of oil, oil-based cosmetics, and steroid cream are other causes of acne. Psychological stress is one of the important factors in acne.
Treatment of acne depends on the grade of acne. I suggest you attach the images to identify the grade and suggest appropriate treatment options. But I suggest you follow the general acne skin care tips mentioned below:
1. Wash your face three times a day with a mild cleanser if your face is dry, or use Benzoyl peroxide face wash (Benzoyl peroxide, water, and modifiers), if your face is oily.
2. Use a good sunscreen with SPF 50 (sun protection factor). Apply to the entire face 30 minutes before you step out irrespective of the presence of sunlight. Apply every four hours for maximum benefits.
3. Do not squeeze or prick your acne as it will leave dark pigmentation and scars, which are difficult to treat.
4. Avoid oil massage to the scalp, it will aggravate dandruff, and if there is oil flow on the facial skin, it can clog the pores leading to comedones.
5. Eat vitamin A-rich fruits and vegetables like papaya, mango, musk melon, pumpkin, carrot, and beetroot. Beta carotene in them is a good antioxidant that helps maintain healthy skin. Drink two to three liters of water every day to keep the skin hydrated.
6. Always use water-based cosmetics, which have a non-comedogenic label on them.
7. Stress causes acne breakouts. Meditation is very helpful for controlling mental stress.
8. Avoid waxing the hair on the face. Waxing irritates hair follicles and can aggravate pimples.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
