Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 20 years old. I get red splashes on my upper chest and sides of the face next to my cheeks usually in the mid-day and it extends to the night also. It makes my face very hot. Before a year, it got stopped and it came back again. I notice them when I eat or feel stressed. After that, I realized that it happens suddenly without a reason. I am taking medication for gastrointestinal issues and Omega 3 vitamins. My blood pressure becomes high sometimes. But it is better now and I have a hiatal hernia. When I start to have redness, I have them for thirty minutes to two hours. It does not cause itching and when my chest becomes red without my face, I do not know them until I remove my shirt. My nose does not show redness. I have redness on the sides of the face next to my cheeks and on my chest. I am attaching the photos taken before eight months and photos taken recently. Though they are not itchy and bumpy, they seem to be hot, and sometimes I do not feel it unless I remove my shirt.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the photos (attachment removed to protect patient identity). These rashes are actually hives. This is called urticaria. It is a type of skin allergy. It is often caused due to food allergy, medicine allergy, or dental caries. In most cases, there is no definitive cause for urticaria. There is nothing serious and do not be worried. You can take tablet Fexofenadine 180 mg one tablet daily at night for a month. You can also take a tablet Montelukast 10 mg one tablet daily at night for a month. Have a follow-up after a month.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Other than feeling uncomfortable, when I get this flushing and heat on my face, I think that it should be not carcinoid syndrome. I have done a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis. I am waiting for the results of the 24-hour urine test called 5-HIAA. When I was talking to my dermatologist about my present suffering, my upper chest got some red spots. He gave me Neorin and I did not use it.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I also thought about carcinoid syndrome. But you do not have other symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fatigue. Your CT (computed tomography) scan is normal. Kindly wait for the results of 5-HIAA (5-hydroxy indole acetic acid). It gives you clarity. Neorin is Desloratadine. I have given you Fexofenadine. Both of them belong to the same class. You can take Neorin.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
