Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Now he is on speech and occupational therapy for laryngomalacia and taking Risperidone 0.5 ml daily. Since last week, he has been crying during his speech sessions and also not responding to them. However, when the session finishes, he will be happy and say, "Let us go home." Is it normal for him?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per the information provided, it is normal for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to behave like this, and even normal kids at this age behave like this. To teach kids with ASD require more patience, so you need not worry. I suggest to remain patient, go slowly and develop confidence in him, and have sessions with some fun so he can enjoy it. Keep something with you that he likes most of what he wants to play with. The speech therapist must know about it, and I am sure they will handle this behavior. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
