Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need help with my baby skin. He is nearly three months old, and his weight is around 5 kg. He has pimples with red rashes itchy and dry on his cheeks, chin, and forehead. It is becoming white as his skin color was light brown. And on his body, he started to have small pimples. I do not know if is eczema or baby acne? I went to the doctor he prescribed Hydrocortisone cream 1% and another ointment but no use it is coming back. So I used coconut oil for three days still no specific improvement, and today I started to use Dexeryl cream. This problem is going on for already two months now. Please can you help to understand what he has and what to do for him?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your history thoroughly and saw all the photos (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it suggests your baby has atopic dermatitis. It is a common condition in children and can be managed easily with proper care. Hydrocortisone cream is good and mild for baby, so you can apply that for 10 days but in a very small quantity like a drop for the whole face. Apply Mupirocin cream once daily only for seven days. Apply a good moisturizer at least three to four times daily on a little bit wet skin. Give antihistaminic syrup for seven days. Use very mild soap and shampoo for baby. I do not know if you will get it there, but Teddy bar and Atogla lotion are really good for the baby. Do not worry, it will resolve with medicines. Recurrence may occur that is why always apply moisturizer and this condition improves with age.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

But in my place, they do not have Mupirocin cream and the syrup you prescribed, unfortunately. Can I use Aveeno eczema cream and shampoo? Is that a type of eczema he has?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is a variant of eczema only. Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic cream and it is a generic name, so you should get this, just find out the brand name. And syrup I advised, you may search for Levocetirizine hydrochloride syrup or Cetirizine syrup. No, do not use Aveeno eczema cream you can use normal Aveeno moisturizer.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
