Why is there bleeding from the gums during brushing even after having good oral hygiene?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had bleeding and red gums for the last three months. I am not able to eat medium spicy food also. I have pain, and my gums bleed while brushing. I went to a dentist, and he did a scaling procedure on the teeth and gave me Vitamin C and a gum gel (Metrogyl DG) to apply two months ago. But still, no relief, and the problem is the same as before. I do not have any medical history, and my oral hygiene was also good even before. I tried home remedies like oil pulling and applying turmeric gel, but relief is temporary. The symptoms started three months back despite healthy oral hygiene. I generally brush twice a day and did warm water gargles, too, at times.

Please advise a fast relief for the same.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw the clinical picture attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I will help you solve the issue. It is normal to have bleeding while brushing, do not worry. I suggest you do ultra scaling once again. Then take antibiotics tablets for two days, twice daily, along with past medications Vitamin C and Metrogyl DG (Chlorhexidine and Metronidazole) gel. I will suggest the name of the antibiotic after knowing your medical history.

You will have temporary relief by taking a healthy and soft diet. Do flossing and mouth wash rinse. Change the toothpaste to toothpaste that is better for sensitivity. It reduces the bleeding. I will suggest the name once you tell me any history of allergy. Use interdental brushes. Reduce the spicy taste foods. Avoid hot and cold foods.

Follow this for three days. The condition will get better. If not, please follow up with an orthopantomogram because certain dental caries and bone loss may cause this bleeding and pain.

I hope this was helpful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
