Why does my blood reports show abnormal values?

Hello doctor,

I am a 56 year old male. I got my blood tests done recently. Kindly advice on what is required like medicines or tonics. I am an engineering manager in a corporate field. I am not taking any medicines as of now. I am generally healthy and follow a normal office routine of 10 AM to 7 PM daily. Kindly let me know if any other details are required. I am enclosing my reports for reference.

Many of the values are abnormal.

  1. You have a vitamin B12 deficiency. That is the reason the MCV (mean corpuscular volume) value is increased in the complete hemogram.
  2. Amylase level is also increased in abdominal conditions.
  3. Lipid profile, that is, cholesterol and other parameters are abnormal.
  4. Your eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) is decreased which indicates that the kidneys have some problem in the process of filtration. You should evaluate for kidney diseases to avoid further kidney damage.
  5. Homocysteine is also raised due to which there is an increased tendency of thrombosis in the body which can lead to heart diseases.
  6. Your Vitamin-D level is also low.

All these points towards a kidney disease.

I advise you to get evaluated thoroughly as mentioned below:

  1. Ultrasound abdomen and pelvis (for kidney size and echotexture).
  2. Urine routine and microscopy.
  3. 24-hour urine protein.
  4. Blood sugar level (random).
  5. ECG (electrocardiogram).

Treatment plan

  1. Capsule Uprise D3 (Vitamin D) 60,000 IU once a week for four weeks.
  2. Tablet Atocor (Atorvastatin) 20 mg at bedtime for a month.
  3. Injection Vitcofol (Vitamin B12 and Folic acid) 2 cc intramuscularly on alternate days on alternate buttocks for five doses, then every week for four weeks, then every alternate week for the next month and once a month for the remaining months in one year.

Preventive measures

  1. Avoid junk food and carbonated drinks.
  2. Include a lot of green leafy vegetables.
  3. Consult a dietician and follow a proper diet chart.
  4. Walk for at least 20 minutes every day.
  5. Drink 10 to 12 cups of water every day.
  6. Include oatmeal in your diet.
  7. Follow-up with the reports.
