Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yesterday I had a weird episode with deja vu. I am having unusual thoughts with a deja vu feeling. These thoughts may feel familiar, but I do not remember having them. It was like a panic attack that did not go away for a few minutes. I still feel panicked and scared if it is going to happen again. The best way to describe the feeling is "I suddenly feel like I already dreamed all of this in a past premonition," which lasted for a few minutes. I had done MRI one year back, and the results were normal. My queries are:

1. Does these thoughts means something is wrong with me?

2. Do I have a stroke or brain tumor, or seizures?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com,

I understand your concern.

Deja vu is a normal physiological phenomenon, and it is commonly seen in elderly people with dementia or Parkinsonian syndrome and also with schizophrenia. Deja vu is very common with anxiety and panic attacks. The anxiety group reported a significantly higher frequency of the job episode over the previous month than controls. They also reported experiencing deja vu more frequently with higher intensity during periods of high anxiety. It may also occur due to the side effect of the drugs you are taking, like Aliform and Effexor (Venlafaxine). Still, we should need to rule out the possibility of any temporal lobe seizure as your brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is normal. So I suggest you to take an EEG (electroencephalogram) and consult a nearby neuro physician.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
