Q. My son occasionally complains of burning sensation during urination. What to do?

My son is 5 years old. He occasionally complains of burning sensation in urine. Before five months, he complained of burning sensation, and we did a urine test which showed pus cells 2 to 3 and albumin haziness. The doctor said that as fine and just advise to give more fluids. We did two more urine tests in the following three months, and they were normal. He occasionally complains about burning and sometimes, has puffy eyes in the mornings. I searched on the internet and got scared. Please advise if there is any need of worrying.

- First, the puffiness in the morning could be familial if you and his father had the same feature or it could be a sign of edema.
- To know if he has edema, press your finger against the lower part of his leg. If the indentation fades quickly, then he has no edema. If the indentation takes a few seconds to fade, then he has edema, and it may sign a kidney problem.
- Second, you should get a blood test of albumin level. If low, then it might indicate a kidney problem.
- Third, you should get a urine test with culture and sensitivity test to detect any bacteria in his urine (urinary infection) as that may cause this burning sensation.
