Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The tooth before my wisdom tooth was chipped out last year and I experienced a weird metallic bloody taste. The pain was very severe. No medication or home remedies worked. I had a cap on that tooth when I was young. Now, I could stick my tongue between the chipped part and can feel the gums. I took tablet Ibuprofen, applied Orajel, and took another medication. I took antibiotics but did not take them as instructed. Also, I brushed my teeth, and tongue, and used mouthwash, garlic, and garlic powder along with salt and water. It started to ache again yesterday and I have difficulty and pain while biting. It hurts so badly that my ear and face begin to hurt. Should I go to the hospital? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We can guide you on your health queries.

I suspect that there could be exposure and irritation of the nerves present in the center of the tooth due to chipping off. Since the tooth is chipped in between the two teeth, there are chances of gum overgrowth in that area which could result in the formation of a gingival polyp. It is not a cause of concern as the condition is treatable, but you need to consult a dentist or an endodontist (a specialized dentist in treating the conditions involving the tooth pulp) and get it evaluated.

As of now, you can go to an emergency room and get painkillers like tablet Tramadol hydrochloride or Ketorolac. A painkiller injection can also be taken to obtain quick relief from the pain.

It was a pleasure helping you, and I look forward to helping you further with your medical needs.

Thank you.
