Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to interpret my medical results and understand the difference between IgG and IgM in relation to sexually transmitted diseases. My results came showing the following one month back:

1) Herpes simplex virus type 1 IgG - Positive.

2) Herpes simplex virus type 2 IgG - Negative.

3) Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 and 2 IgM - Indeterminate.

4) Chlamydia trachomatis IgG - Negative.

5) Chlamydia trachomatis IgM -Positive.

I was infected with chlamydia seven months back. I have been having on and off pain with regards to my testicles until I got tested last year and was then given the first dose of medication. I abstained from intercourse as per my doctor, but it seems like whenever I finish taking the antibiotics, the pain comes back again. The last time I had intercourse was beginning of last month, with protection. Again a day after that, the pain came back. I have been taking antibiotics for a very long time and want to understand why I still have the pain after taking the antibiotics.

My past medications are Doxycycline 100 mg for 45 days, Urimax for three months, Levofloxacin for seven days, and Macrodantin for three months. My current medications are Doxycycline 100 mg for ten days and Vitamin-B12 complex for 30 days. Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Any IgM (immunoglobulin M) positive indicates recent and present infection. IgG positive indicates old or past infection. Your test results are suggestive of recent chlamydia and past herpes simplex infection. You have undergone a proper antimicrobial treatment.

In some patients, the pain may persist for few months after the illness. Pain does not indicate that you have an active infection. Pain is actually due to the old damage. No need to worry about it. No need to continue antibiotics for a longer duration.

Just focus on improving your immunity by following the below steps:

1) Taking nutritious food like Vitamin-C rich food, flavonoid-rich substances like green tea.

2) Take protein-rich food like milk, egg, and cereals.

3) Keep yourself calm and stress-free.

4) Stay hydrated.

5) Do mild exercise.

6) Try to introduce yoga and meditation in your routine lifestyle.

7) If you are using alcohol or tobacco in any form, quit it.

8) Avoid sexual activity for few days.

9) Avoid unprotected intercourse with a community sex worker in the future.

I hope this was helpful.
