Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am diagnosed with repeated pancreatitis. The advised diet is working to decrease cramps, gas, and belly bloating. I have one question. Is there any medicine to reduce the cramps especially in the upper abdomen? My last blood check showed normal levels of amylase and lipase enzymes, the CT with contrast chemicals two weeks ago showed mild pancreatitis. If I do not follow the diet, for example, if I eat low-fat chicken meat and have some alcohol, I get the symptoms. Can Librax help my pain?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Diet does play an important role in symptoms for a patient with pancreatitis. So better avoid fatty, fried, and fermented meals. Also, keep away from alcohol.

As far as medicines concerned for relief of cramps in the upper abdomen, any analgesic like Acetaminophen can provide symptomatic relief. Pancreatic enzymes will help in gas and bloating. Add a proton pump inhibitor if there are symptoms of gastritis and/or reflux.

Librax (Chlordiazepoxide and Clidinium bromide) will help relieve the stress associated with the disease.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is Acetaminophen the same as Paracetamol? It is not helping my upper abdomen pain. Are there any other medicines to reduce my cramp/pains?

I am on carbs diet (bread, noodles, rice, vegetables with no fat). Is protein allowed, like tuna (with no oil/fat)? If I eat chicken, I get this pain as well.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, Acetaminophen and Paracetamol are essentially the same. If you are are not getting any response to this I would recommend you try either Tramadol or Pethidine.

Tramadol has clinically been proved effective with good response to pain in chronic pancreatitis. Pethidine is safer and better than Morphine. If you are not diabetic and comfortable with small frequent carb meals, it is fine. Tuna for sure without oil and fat is allowed.

Irrespective of recommendations, any food that you are not comfortable with needs to be avoided, so it is better you skip chicken, filet, etc.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
