Why is there a loss of sensitivity in the tip of the penis after circumcision?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 19 years old and recently underwent circumcision to resolve phimosis that I had been living with since I was around 15 years old. With the phimosis, I used to stimulate myself by grinding against my hand, but I rarely actually came. I believe this was retrograde ejaculation or some other stuff, as my urine after orgasm was cloudy and somewhat white. My main issue now, after I have had a circumcision, is actually not getting enough stimulation to come to orgasm. The head of the penis feels more numb than before, and when fully erect, there are spots where no sensation is felt at all. I am confused and quite worried as I do not know if this is normal around a month after circumcision.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is common for the glans skin to take some time to recover its sensitivity after a circumcision. The reason being it was not exposed to the environment (for a long time) before due to phimosis. I would suggest you wait for 15 to 20 days before you start masturbating or engaging in sexual activity, simply because the suture line would only just be healing. Please be assured that with time you will recover the sensitivity.

I hope this puts your mind at ease.
